A Season to Sing RECORDING

May 26th 2025

I’ve spent a delightful weekend in Mayfield, East Sussex, conducting a performance AND the inaugural recording of A Season to Sing in the stunning location of St Dunstan’s Church. If ever proof was needed that singing in choirs brings communities together then this was it: the youngest member of the choir was 8 and the oldest was 89 and there were singers from every decade in between, all singing their hearts out. The recording was hosted (and made possible) by members of St Dunstan’s Church Choir - in particular the wonderful Anne Clayton - who welcomed members of some of the other co-commissioning choirs to boost their ranks. We had singers from Guildford Chamber Choir, Finsbury Park Singers, LUMINOSA, Walton Voices, Barts Academic Festival Choir, The Boundstone Chorus, Highgate Choral Society and Victoria Park Singers as well as some choristers from nearby Saint Ronan’s Prep School. Their young voices added a really special element to the overall sound.

The buzz I get from standing on a conductor’s podium and leading a choir is in every way equal to the buzz I’ve always had when performing as a singer. Gavin Roberts (organist) played absolutely superbly, as always, and I had my dream team of my brother Al Forbes (sound engineer) and Alexander L’Estrange (producer) in the control room. Believe it or not, this is our 11th album together!

I can’t WAIT to share this recording with you when it’s ready later this summer. There was such a positive energy during each take and such warmth and respect in the room. I’ll be sharing clips on our A Season to Sing facebook page so do join us if you haven’t done so already.

What you’ve given these young choristers today is so unique and special. It’s an experience they will never forget.
